My engagement sessions are typically 1–2 hours. That gives us enough time to move through a couple of different locations or lighting situations without rushing, and to get well past the initial stiff phase into the genuine moments.
Don’t try to cram too much in. Two beautiful locations in two hours is significantly better than five rushed locations where nobody had time to settle. The best images always come when we have room to slow down.

Within 72 hours of your session, I’ll send you sneak peeks — a handful of my favorite images from the day so you have something to share and celebrate while I work on the full gallery. The full gallery typically delivers within 4–6 weeks, fully edited and available through an online gallery you can download, share, and order prints from.
If you want engagement photos for your save-the-dates or wedding website, plan for at least 6–8 weeks before those materials need to be finalized to account for editing turnaround.
When Should You Book Your St. Louis Engagement Session?
Sooner than you think. Spring and fall are the most popular times of year in St. Louis — the light is beautiful, the weather cooperates, and the foliage is stunning — and those dates book up months in advance. If your wedding is in 2026 or 2027, your engagement session should ideally happen in the spring or early fall before your wedding date.
Summer sessions work beautifully too — just plan for earlier morning or evening timing to avoid the harsh midday St. Louis heat and light. Winter sessions are underrated: bare trees, cozy outfits, and a moodier palette that photographs incredibly well on film.

Golden hour — the last 60–90 minutes before sunset — is the most consistently beautiful time for outdoor engagement photos in St. Louis. The light is warm, soft, and flattering in a way that midday sun simply isn’t. I’ll schedule your session to end at or near sunset whenever possible.
What if it rains on my engagement session day?
We reschedule — no stress, no fees. Weather happens, especially in St. Louis. I build flexibility into my booking process for exactly this reason. Overcast days can actually be beautiful for portraits (even, diffused light is a photographer’s friend), so light clouds aren’t always a reason to reschedule. True rain usually is.
